Vendasta was formed in January of 2008 and quickly drummed up $3 million in venture capital funding later that summer. After acquiring another $8.25 million of funding in 2013, we grew from a handful of developers to a 200+ strong team working at a landmark location in downtown Saskatoon. This success has come under the leadership of eight executives who have worked together for more than a decade.
Chief Executive Officer
Intense, boisterous, imaginative. Brendan King, co-founder and CEO of Vendasta Technologies, is the innovative force of the company. Responsible for providing the vision, thought leadership and business strategy, it is Brendan’s ability to focus on the big picture while maintaining quality on the finest details that facilitates Vendasta’s success. Prior to co-founding Vendasta, Brendan proved his worth through many business ventures, including founding two other successful companies, one of which was nationally franchised. He also provided the entrepreneurial force behind Point2 Agent, a real estate software, where he grew its membership to over 165,000 agents and brokers in 85 countries. Brendan and Vendasta are almost synonymous. Both are governed by four core values: drive, innovation, respect and agility. Brendan is extremely passionate about upholding these core values while leading Vendasta down a path of innovation to become the number one provider of essential brand management products.
Chief Financial Officer
Mike is in charge of all aspects of Vendasta’s budgeting and financial reporting. From cash management to budgeting, payroll to collections, he is our numbers guy. Mike came to Vendasta as a senior financial executive with over 18 years of experience in North America and Europe. There and at Vendasta he is known for leading key transformational business initiatives while delivering consistent growth in areas of responsibility. Mike is a proven resource for driving critical projects through to completion. He also acts as a product owner for our business operations team, and proves himself as a motivational team leader that energizes through encouragement, mentoring and by example.
Chief Marketing Officer
Jeff Tomlin is a visionary in all things marketing, SEO, business strategy and digital. As a co-founder of Vendasta, Jeff’s passion and innovative nature drives the success of the business. While conducting market research and business analysis, Jeff is always measuring and analyzing the effectiveness of the marketing efforts. He is constantly developing and iterating marketing and PR plans, seeking out the most effective paths. In working with channel partners to help their business clients to grow revenue with digital media solutions, strengthen traditional media assets and develop digital sales strategies, Jeff is known to many of America’s top media companies. Prior to co-founding Vendasta, Jeff was the VP of strategy and business development at Point2, where he helped grow a real estate platform from the ground to power over 185,000 agents in 84 countries.
Vice-President, X Projects
Guy captains the development of moonshot ideas at Vendasta, leading new and early stage projects. He has over 25 years of experience in software, business consulting and the management of development teams. His calm demeanour and keen aptitude for everything scrum related means he is always passing his expertise onto everyone at the company. His relaxed style of leadership ensures that all employees find him approachable and enjoy his input regarding process improvement in their daily routines. Guy’s apt business analysis and understanding of corporate strategy provide a focus for Vendasta’s product teams. Before coming to Vendasta as a co-founder, Guy worked with the management team at Point2 Technologies as CatUsed.com’s product owner, managing the team building Caterpillar’s worldwide online trading system.
Allan’s unique skill set is perfectly matched by his job requirements. He is in charge of all day-to-day operations of the company, and is our head coach in agile and scrum processes. In charge of people operations, he takes care of everything — from compensation to culture, scrum process to budgeting. Quick wit and a kind heart ensure that employees find Allan both approachable and resourceful, always ready with a creative solution. Passionate about the agile process, he guides scrum masters and product owners through the scrum process. Vendasta is known for its lively culture, and no one is more protective of that culturem social committee. Before joining Vendasta, Allan pioneered mobile development initiatives for heavy equipment dealer software systems. He studied computer science at the University of Saskatchewan, focusing on user interface design, and finds a way to integrate that knowledge into his work here.
George is responsible for business development with Vendasta’s large media partners, as well as managing our in-house sales team. A digital interpreter, George has preached the gospel of online reputation management directly to the local businesses of hundreds of cities across North America. He translates his knowledge of the digital landscape into accessible information for those still stuck in the rut of traditional media. With nearly three decades of experience in marketing, sales and promotion, George is a highly compelling speaker, always in demand across North America — vital content and emphatic delivery are combined for an enlightening presentation. George’s expertise in sales, training, networking, management and marketing comes from the numerous executive and ownership positions he has held across multiple media and service related businesses. His track record of success is continued here at Vendasta.
Vice-President, Product Strategy
Bryan is the creative innovator behind Vendasta’s exceptional design team. Responsible for providing direction that spans multiple user types, platforms and integrations, he brings over twelve years experience in media production and software design to accommodate goals that align with the key principles of agile development. His eye for detail and dedicated approach toward user experience—which hinges on equal parts logic, empathy and creativity—provide immense value for Vendasta’s growing customer base, and his ability to interpret user behaviour metrics in a way that aligns with our partners’ needs is second to none. Bryan received his B. Ed degree with honours and distinction from the University of Saskatchewan.
Jacqueline is responsible for driving a growth mindset throughout Vendasta. She encourages alignment, focus and execution cross-functionally with Engineering, Design, Product Management, Operations, Marketing, Sales, Support and Success. She leads Vendasta’s internationalization strategy and analyzes key customer insights and trends in order to feed back throughout the rest of the organization. Jacqueline is an alumnus of The Next 36 Entrepreneurial Institute, Canada’s premier entrepreneurial leadership initiative. During the program, she co-founded and was CEO of Triumf Mobile Rewards: a tablet and Smartphone-based platform for small and medium-sized businesses to customize their own loyalty rewards programs. She has been a speaker at events such as TEDx UofS and WE DAY 2015, and has represented Canada at the 2010 G8 and G20 Summits, the 2010 APEC Summit in Japan, and at the 2011 G20 Young Entrepreneur Summit in France.
Chief Technology Officer
Dale is a technical visionary with a passion for the big picture. A constant forger of new ideas, his deep understanding of system-level programming equips him with the right skills to strengthen Vendasta’s reputation as a world leader in distributed applications using cloud-based infrastructure. He also brings an entrepreneurial background to the table—having co-founded LucidHelix Solutions in 2008, a company that specialized in diagnostic software for digital television networks—along with an Engineering Physics degree and over twelve years experience as a developer and architect. He revels in large-scale thinking and hands-on prototyping, and spends most of his time identifying new technologies that push our limits, lower our costs and continue to ensure Vendasta is the number one workplace for Canadian software developers.
Vice-President of Engineering
Jesse is the evangelizing voice of good development processes and agile practices throughout Vendasta. A relentless problem-solver and passionate thought-leader, he is responsible for the execution of the company’s product vision and ensuring the quality of our platform upholds the highest standards. His technical prowess comes from years of experience as both a software developer and business analyst—most recently as a product manager at Point2 Technologies—and now he directs his energy toward assisting scrum masters in the creation of high performing product delivery teams and collaborating with the chief architect on Vendasta's technical vision. In other words, the teams’ success is his success, leading him to help everyone in the company broaden their knowledge and maximize their professional potential.
EVP, Strategic Development
Tim Johnson brings with him 20 plus years of experience developing and positioning targeted products and services. He also survived the dot.com implosion, and that combination has heavily influenced and molded his skillset. He has a unique understanding of how to integrate conventional marketing into the digital space with high conversion rates. Tim has formerly served as President of Brand Development at FranConnect, VP of Marketing for a California based Coaching franchise, and he also founded and ran Process Peak. His time as VP of Marketing led to the realization that the industry was ripe for a fresh approach and a new technology. Thus, Process Peak was born. His team at PP focused on achieving client success through service and software solutions at the brand and local level. Tim is excited to apply his treasure trove of knowledge and experience to continue the impressive growth at Vendasta.
Director of People Operations
Jean is passionate about where the people and the operations collide in business. Spending the last 15 years growing and developing retail brands throughout Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba she values how people make all the difference in a company. She is responsible for driving a phenomenal culture where employees can be engaged, rewarded and perform at their best. Encouraging personal development, effective communication and performance from our teams while recruiting and bringing on board the best new talent Jean strives to keep Vendasta known for being the best place to work in Saskatoon. Jean graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a degree in Psychology focusing on the socialization of groups and how people learn. Growing up in Saskatoon with three brothers means that in her down time she can be found cheering for hockey in the winter and out on the boat at Candle Lake in the summer with her husband and two children.
The executive team exists within a larger leadership and management group of twenty-five people at Vendasta. This team has been responsible for ideation, development and commercialization of Vendasta’s core small and medium business products, as well as Vendasta’s customer lifecycle management platform.
