2020 Young People Award

Jan. 17, 2020 (Saskatoon, CANADA) – Vendasta is proud to be listed among ‘Canada’s Top Employers for Young People’, a top 100 list of the nation’s best workplaces for people starting their careers.

The news comes as the cloud-based technology platform continues to pursue an ambitious hiring plan expected to grow the number of ‘Vendastians’ from 355 today to 500 by the end of 2020, eventually reaching 650 by 2022.

“This is a great testament to the work we’ve done to have a welcoming and fulfilling environment for our team members,” said VP of People Operations Jean Parchewsky. “People come to work with us because they want to work on engaging and challenging problems alongside other smart and fun people. They also want to build a career in a fast growing environment that will challenge them, and that is what we have built for them here. We spend so much time working in our lives and there is no reason why it can’t be fun and rewarding from the first job until retirement.”

Vendasta’s average employee age is 31. About 37 percent of team members work in research and development, 23 percent are in sales, 17 percent work in customer fulfillment, 11 percent are marketers, seven percent are in customer support, and the remaining five percent work in operations.

“Our unofficial motto in People Operations is ‘one company, many careers’,” said Parchewsky. “People want to be able to do what they are passionate about, and as they learn and their passions change, they want new opportunities so that they can continue to grow. We have created a growth culture where this opportunity is available.”

Vendasta offers paid internships, co-op opportunities, ongoing employee training, subsidies for professional accreditation, and a robust orientation program at its own Vendasta University. Additional work ‘perks’ include flexible work hours and personal leave, health benefits for new employees, paid time off, telecommuting, transit subsidies, local discounts, in-house food services, and frequent social events. Recently, Vendasta launched its first digital online learning management system, which provides team members with the skills they need to succeed at work.

“The best employers are changing the way they offer key benefits like training so that they are more ‘on-demand’ and let employees learn at their own speed,” says Stephanie Leung, Assistant Editor at Mediacorp, Inc., which compiles the list. “Some even offer apps that allow employees to see where they stand with various workplace benefits and annual vacation allowance.”

The full list of companies is being recognized by the Mediacorp editorial team at a luncheon reception in Toronto today. Vendasta is one of three Saskatoon companies and six Saskatchewan-based on the top 100 list.

There are currently more than two dozen openings at the company. Read Vendasta’s Top Employer profile here.

About Canada’s Top Employers for Young People

Now in its 18th year, Canada’s Top Employers for Young People is an editorial competition that recognizes employers offering the nation’s best workplaces and programs for young people starting their careers. Winners of the competition are chosen by the editorial team at the Canada’s Top Employers project on the basis of the programs and initiatives they offer to attract and retain younger workers. These include benefits such as tuition assistance and co-op or work-study programs. The editors also examine each employer’s mentorship and training programs, including benefits such as bonuses paid on completing trades or professional designations. The editors also review each employer’s career management program, looking for initiatives that help younger workers advance faster in the organization.
