On June 11, Google made a significant announcement about changes in rankings of mobile search results.  Misconfigurations and sub-optimal mobile experiences will affect mobile search results.  Put another way, if you don't have a mobile site, or if you have a crappy mobile site redirect, it will affect how you rank.


This will make responsive design even more important.

Yesterday, Richard Kirk noted, "From a dev point of view this latest announcement seems to push brands further toward using responsive design to cater for mobile and tablet users as opposed to an m. subdomain or dynamic serving of content based on device. Google likes responsive design because the right content is always served to the user, even if it isn't necessarily specifically targeted on them."
