Earlier this week, Facebook announced a new feature that allows people to donate money to non-profits directly from Facebook.
As of today, Facebook has enabled it for 19 non-profit organizations listed here. The Donate button is available on their pages as well on any posts they share. Users can click the button, choose the amount and enter the payment information to make the donation from within Facebook.
Other non-profits can request this feature by filling out the Donate Interest Form.
I think this is a great idea because now along with raising awareness about a cause on Facebook, people can also raise money at the same time. However, the marketer in me wonders if this is just a pilot run for a more expansive eCommerce feature soon to be available to all business pages on Facebook.
What do you think? Will Facebook become a hybrid social eCommerce platform?
